The year 2016 has seen some incredible work from a number of trap producers. Compared to the other music genres, trap music has over the last few years experienced tremendous growth with different variations in style. Below are some of the artists who have hugely contributed to the success of trap music so far in 2016. Finally got to writing this one up after moving from NYC using these movers nyc.

Herobust has been one of the names frequently mentioned in trap music this year. his release of the I’m Aloud Extended Play through Mad Decent this year further catapulted him to the top of the charts. One interesting bit with Herobust is that each of his tracks has a unique blend of style beautifully woven together giving festivals and clubs some real entertainment. One of his extended plays is a high breed trap song with hip hop elements as well as future bass and dubstep.

DJ Snake

Following his entrance into the trap music scene with his originals “You Know You Like It” and “Bird Machine”, DJ Snake has enjoyed a continual rise to etch his name in the highest levels of bass music stardom. Courtesy of his collaborations with Dillon Francis and Diplo, DJ Snake has attained international recognition. He is fondly remembered for releases such as “Propagana” and Kanye’s remix, New Slaves.

Thanks to his collaboration with Dillon Francis, NGHTMRE has had a tremendous opportunity touring the world and serving his fans with official remixes of Tommy Trash, RL Grime, and a lot more. This year, he released the NGHTMRE extended play which has some of the most memorable and explosive tracks of this era. If you have had an opportunity to hear out his work at trap-oriented events and in other circles, you will definitely know that he is an artist worth his salt.

Mr. Carmark

Mr. Carmark ushered in 2016 just like any other year, but with lots of anticipation and mystic. He removed most of his materials from Sound Cloud even though there wasn’t much and uploaded an extended play which had more than 50 tracks through physical USBs at a Soulection clothing shop. Critics have appreciated the unconventional and anxiety inducing styles employed by Carmark that have turned his listeners into religious followers. His productions are truly natural and unmatched.

RL Grime

This is the legend of them all and a mentor to many of the trap artists. RL Grime has such a huge influence on trap music such that the most recognized and populated thread on Reddit known as r/trap dedicates a whole page for days at a time to him. It doesn’t matter the stage RL Grime steps onto around the world, he always receives such a jubilant and boisterous welcome.

Few artists can challenge the domination of RL Grime in the bass scene. Each drop is accompanied by a unique set of visuals which make the scale of his performances outshine close to everyone in the scene.

Even as we inch closer to 2017, the above names will likely resonate through in the minds of many fans as they anticipate new releases and probably new artists.

Break Up and Make Up – Bands that Reunited after Falling Apart

Music bands come together for a season and an objective and once this is met, chances of them going separate ways are high. Most people have interpreted this as one of the major undoing in music, but the reality is some artists have grown significantly while others found other bands they collaborated with and produced some great music. Below are some bands that at one point called it quit then they reunited even if it was for a night.

The Misfits

This was a band famous in the 1970s and it was a truly a classic lineup. However, they didn’t last together and in 1983, they split. After 12 years apart, they met again in 1995 where guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein and bassist Jerry Only went for a tour and released music, but in the absence of Glenn Danzing, the iconic singer.

Guns N’ Roses

This band was known for classics such as Welcome to the Jangle and Sweet Child O’ Mine. It was an absolute force of the time and Axl Rose always held the band together and kept it going. In July 1993, the band fell apart. 23 years later in 2016, Slash, the guitarist, Duff McKagan, the bassist, and Axl came together again. They immediately did a surprise LA club show and announced a North American stadium tour for the summer.

Spice Girls

Spice Girls were real pop icons who achieved commendable success that made them famous worldwide. After their 2000 album entitled Forever, they split to concentrate on their solo work. However, the girls never stayed apart for a long time because in 2007, they did a reunion tour and in 2012, they also reunited to grace the closing ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics held in London. In an interview on August 4, 2016, Melanie Brown, one of the Spice Girls hinted that a reunion is in the pipeline for their 20th anniversary this year.

The Grateful Dead

In 1995, the world was greeted to some of the most devastating news when Jerry Garcia passed away. For over two decades, The Grateful Dead seemed like it would never play again. However, in January 2015, there was an interesting twist and the band announced that guitarist Bob Weir and Trey Anastasio would reunite. On October 31, 2016, the group will make its debut with three of the four original players at Madison Square Garden.

Velvet Underground

Velvet Underground is a band that was credited with the invention of alternative music. In 1973, the band parted ways and none remained. By the time they called it quit, Lou Reed, the founding front man had already ceased playing three years earlier.

In 1992, the original lineup of the Velvet Underground made public its reunion and went for a European tour. However, John Cale, the multi-instrumentalist and Reed developed personal differences and the band dissolved again.

In addition to the above, other interesting bands in this category include The Who, The Replacements, and The Police.

The Top Rated Hip Hop Albums in 2016

Over the years, rap artists have been singing their own hooks. Some of their songs have been great while others terrible, but this is what has shaped the hip hop world as we know it today. Rappers like Eminem, Biz Markie, and KRS-One have made such significant contributions in hip hop. The recent highlight has been the passing on of Prince who was not only masterful at singing, but also rhyming.

However in 2016, hip hop has seen huge improvements in quality and style with the advent of the singing rapper. This is an MC who can comfortably do his thing on the mic and at the same time sing his voice off. Below are the top picks in hip hop albums in 2016, year to date.

The Life of Pablo by Kanye West

Kanye West is more of a volatile individual, but with a great sonic scope. This album contain a number of songs including Ultralight Beam where Kanye comes to terms with the death of his mom, Father Stretch My Hands Pt.2 where the artist focuses on his relationship with his father. The release of this album was majorly surrounded by Kanye’s antics online which to an extent attracted the most attention as opposed to the actual music delivered.

Coloring Book by Chance the Rapper

Taking a cue from Kanye who also happens to be his mentor, Chance incorporates the gospel element to this mixtape in great measure. Chance the Rapper is a Chicago MC whose aim in this album is to take you to church through one of the purest and absolutely creative fusions of gospel and hip hop. He can comfortably carry a tune and he is hot on the mic. This has made critics to positively forecast his music career as they expect lots of stuff to come from him.

Domo Genesis

This album was released by Columbia/Odd Future Records. Domo Genesis through this mixtape brings together a litany of guest appearances including Mac Miller, Wiz Khalifa, Kendra Foster, Tyler, and Juicy J among others. This is a deeply personal album which serves to bridge the link between Earl Sweatshirt and Frank Ocean in a way that is both psychedelic and street.

It is important to note that Domo is majorly a rapper and doesn’t sing as much. This is why he has brought in friends such as Tay Walker, Cam O’bi, and Anderson .Paak to accent his flow.

Views by Drake

Drake is arguably Toronto’s most prolific teen idol. He is in the process of mastering his own style on the singing rapper game. Views is his third straight classic in a series and it was initially entitled Views From The 6. The length of this album is 82 minutes and is filled to a greater extent with the brooding rap soul the artist has been perfecting.

Other albums include Don’t Look Down by Mr. Lif, The Mountain Will Fall by DJ Shadow, Sadevillain by Seanh, and 99.9% done by Kaytranada.

Through his Instagram account, Young Thug first broke the news of this album to the rap community and the general, public on July 9, 2016. His initial plan was to release this album on August 16 because that is his birthday. However, this didn’t happen.

The mainstream critics including PopMatters, MTV News, Pretty Much Amazing, and Allmusic have described Young Thug’s collection of songs in this mixtape as essential, thrilling, and fresh.

I’m Up

This mixtape consists of 9 songs and was released by 300 Entertainment and Atlantic Records on February 5, 2016.
